NES Hybrid Implementation - October 2020 - Updated 9/30/2020

Norton Elementary School will return to in-person learning using a hybrid model beginning October 5, 2020. This means that students will attend in-person learning 5 days per week either in the morning (8:55-11:25 am) or in the afternoon (12:45-3:15 pm). In general, students with last names beginning with letters A-K will attend in-person 8:55-11:25 am and students with last names L-Z will attend school 12:45-3:15 pm. In some instances, students may be asked to switch times to better balance classes or to receive special education services. You will be contacted by the school if we need you to switch times.


The general school day will consist of a 2 hour and 30 minute in-person block, an assigned time to attend specials remotely (Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday), and about an hour of assigned work to be completed at home.


Cohort RED - In Person learning 8:55-11:25 AM Every Day

Students with last names beginning with A-K will attend school every day from 8:55-11:25 am. The building will be open to students eating breakfast beginning at 8:30 am and 8:40 am for students not eating breakfast. Students ordering lunch will be sent home with a “cold” lunch that may need to be heated at home. *Note-some students may be contacted to attend specific sessions to meet specific needs.


Cohort White - In Person learning 12:45-3:15 PM AM Every Day

Students with last names beginning with L-Z will attend school every day from 12:45-3:15 pm. The building will be open to students eating lunch beginning at 12:15 am and 12:40 for students not eating lunch. *Note-some students may be contacted to attend specific sessions to meet specific needs.



Specials’ Classes During Hybrid Schedule - Updated

During this time of hybrid learning, students will be assigned a specific time for specials (music, art, physical education). For in-person morning students, a special will be assigned in the afternoon. For in-person afternoon students, a special will be assigned in the morning. The specific time will be live lessons with the specials’ teachers. A schedule will be released soon. For students who remain in remote learning, specials will continue to be offered at your own pace.

Busing Update
Buses/Transportation will be available for in-person students for morning and afternoon classes. Bus assignments and time were mailed to families and should arrive this week (week of 9/28/2020)

Breakfast and Lunch Update
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students until December 31, 2020 (or until funds are eliminated). There is no need to sign up for breakfast or lunch, the student just needs to tell the teacher.

Breakfast will be available to students attending in the morning and can enter the building beginning at 8:30 am. All students not eating breakfast may enter the building at 8:40 am. Students attending in the morning can receive lunch if they tell their teacher in the morning. All students attending in the morning that are receiving lunch will be sent home with a "cold" lunch that may need to be heated at home.

Lunch will be available to students attending in the afternoon and can enter the building beginning at 12:15 pm. All students not eating lunch may enter the building at 12:40 pm. ONLY STUDENTS RECEIVING A SCHOOL LUNCH SHOULD ARRIVE PRIOR TO 12:40 PM. Students receiving a school lunch in the afternoon will receive a "hot" lunch and will eat in the cafeteria, distanced from other students.

Chromebook Update
For the time being, NES students should NOT bring Chromebooks or other devices to school. Please use your device to complete additional assigned schoolwork at home and for attending specials.
