NMS Chromebook Collection

We are grateful that our school district was able to support the Chromebook Loaner program for the 2020/2021 academic year! As we approach the final weeks of the school year, it is time to outline our building’s collection process. Each school building will designate their own process in order to accommodate end-of-year needs for technology. Please read through the following information carefully.

Items Collected

In-Person Learners will return their Chromebooks during the school day (as outlined above). Remote Learners will drop-off their Chromebooks, using a drive-through system (see details on next page), during the time frames listed above.

The following items will need to be returned during the collection times.

  • Chromebook - Each student was assigned a specific Chromebook. For families with multiple students, make sure each student returns the correct Chromebook assigned to them. This information is located on the labels the district applied to each Chromebook.

  • Charger - There are two different types of chargers. Please make sure the correct charger is returned with the correct Chromebook.

  • Carrying Case, if applicable - Most students were issued a carrying case (black bag with red N on it). Please clean out the case before returning it.

At the time of collection, students will complete a pink half sheet of paper noting any issues (inoperable camera, keys, trackpad, etc.) and any damages for which the student is aware. After the student turns in all items above, their name will be checked off our master list. NOTE: We will NOT accept a Chromebook without its charger unless you know it is lost and understand you’ll be charged for it.

In some cases, a WiFi Hotspot was loaned to families. If this applies to you, this will need to be returned during the Chromebook Collection times outlined above.

Drive-Through Drop-Off System for Remote Families

We will use a drive-through system in order to collect Chromebooks from our remote students. In order to avoid student pick-up/drop-off times and bus traffic in our parking lot, it is important that everyone adheres to the timeframes listed in the chart above.

  • Enter the campus from Cleveland-Massillon Road or Greenwich Road.

  • Proceed around the flagpole to the visit parking area and look for signage indicating “Chromebook Collection.”

  • Someone will meet you at your car, have you complete the pink half-sheet of paper, collect the items, and check your name off our master list.

The entire process should take approximately 2-3 minutes per vehicle. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work through the collection.

Post-Collection Process

Throughout the summer, our technology department will inspect, clean, and reset all Chromebooks. If any damages are noted, families will receive notification and be assessed any charges related to the damage(s).

As we stated, we are very fortunate that our district supported this loaner program. In order to prepare for the 2021/22 academic year, it is imperative that all Chromebooks are returned within the outlined timeframes. Thank you in advance for your attention to all of the details within this document.

District Spirit Opportunity

Norton Panther Families - as promised in last Friday's Community Newsletter, the district is offering the opportunity to purchase Norton Panther Stickers that are perfect for a car or home window.  There are two different ways to purchase the decals, and all of that is explained in this document: Community Static Stickers.pdf   As mentioned on Friday, we are having some technical issues with the pdf documents opening on our SchoolMessenger system, so this same document will be posted on our website as well.

For now, each building has 50 decals, and they cost $3 each.

Let us know if you have any questions, and Go Panthers.

Chromebook Collection Email from Mr. Addis- April 1, 2021

Norton Panther Families - the district is pleased to have collaborated with our community on the distribution of over 1,300 Chromebooks and power cords during a year of remote education.  During a time when this needed to happen, we were able to support the need to take care of our kids.

If you are a family who DID NOT borrow a Chromebook and power cord, then please be comfortable in closing this email.

If you are a family who DID borrow a Chromebook and power cord, then please consider this letter Technology Announcement .pdf to be the first of many announcements regarding end-of-year collection of district equipment.  The district will be very active in its communication with all of you about the proper return of borrowed equipment, so please communicate back with us with your questions and concerns.  For now, if you have borrowed/are borrowing a device, please read the PDF and begin planning for any necessary requests and/or requirements.

Thank you for your support, and for helping us with this important task.

Mr. Dana Addis, Superintendent
