NMS STEM Explores the Solar System

MS STEM 8th graders have been working on a cool project for several weeks. It's the world's coolest scavenger hunt. Mr. Aurand put the Solar System on the roof of the school and made pre-programmed routes with the drones so that students could do flyby surveillance of prominent features of our solar system--much like what we are currently doing with NASA. The students are not in control of the vehicles--the routes are pre-programmed and each flight is identical. Students only operate the camera and even if they try to manipulate the route they are unable to.
Students play back the video, capture stills and crop them down. Then, they have a whole-class discussion of the planets and moons surveyed. The voyage starts on Earth and they travel outwards to the radius of Pluto and then return to the final destination: Gale Crater, Mars.
