JUNIOR YEAR CHECK LIST OF "TO DOS" BY MONTH:
 
September
Put together a list of ten colleges you would like to attend.  Plan on applying to 3 to 5 of them.
Talk to your parents and your high school counselor about where you want to go to college.
Study and register for the PSAT.
Obtain dates and locations of college fairs.
Keep your grades up!
 
October
Take the PSAT.
Keep your grades up!
 
November
Look into requirements for the colleges to which you are interested in.
Check with the above colleges to ask about specific testing requirements.

December
Start planning to take the SAT or ACT exams.  Information is in the guidance office.

February
Start to search out private scholarships and other student aid programs.  Use free internet searches to find out what scholarship programs you might be eligible to apply for (Ex: www.fastweb.com). Visit our Guidance Webpage for other valuable resources and links.
Register and study for ACT and/or SAT exams.

March
Begin scheduling visits to each of the three to five colleges that are on your final list.  Make sure to include a campus tour and meetings with the admissions representative and financial aid counselor.  For a list of great questions to ask, stop in the Guidance Office.

May
Take the SAT or ACT exams.
In early to mid May take the AP exams which are given in high schools nationally (Norton High School is a testing site!).
Begin to make a list of scholarships you will apply for, include deadlines and application requirements.
Finish the year strong academically!
 
June
Obtain a summer job to help save money for college.
Consider taking a summer trip to your top college choices, if you haven't already done so.
 
Your counselor will help you when you begin your senior year!
